News from the finca!
Tefia - a picture of horror
In December 2022, we were asked by the Guardia Civil (SEPRONA) if we would be willing to take in 5 dogs Animals from poor husbandry, which were to be confiscated from them. Of course, we agreed without hesitation and only one day later we met the police on the property where the dogs were left to die.
It was a terrible picture. The animals had hardly any water and food, were emaciated to the bone, had open wounds and were covered in vermin. The owner showed absolutely no sign of guilt or shame and handed the animals over to us with an impassive look. We immediately drove to the veterinary clinic "Bichos", whose team was already waiting for us.
All the dogs had massive blood anaemia, the worst was Calipo the pointer - he was immediately given a blood transfusion and had to stay in the clinic for the time being. With the other dogs Nina, Linda, Filomena and Chila we were allowed to go to the finca. The animals were able to eat their fill and sleep in soft dog beds. The next day they were all bathed, and the desired call came from the vet clinic - Calipo had survived and we were allowed to pick him up.
We fed the dogs with puppy food, vitamins and beef fat powder to keep them strong. After only one month, it was almost impossible to believe how miserable the animals had been before.
And the best thing at the end: For the first time in the Canary Islands, a judge ordered the immediate handover of the dogs to an animal welfare organisation, to Finca Esquinzo. So we didn't have to wait until the court hearing for the animals to be castrated and placed, instead were allowed to start immediately!
We would like to thank the Seprona, the Guardia Civil, the official veterinarian Ana Franquis as well as the clinic "Bichos", the lawyers of "Prota" and the finder for the great cooperation!
